Future Calendar Year Requests

The Future Calendar Year Requests setting allows you to control whether employees can request time off in the next calendar year and, if so, how those requests are managed.

This setting is especially useful as you prepare for year-end or manage carryover balances.

Available Options:

No (default)

Employees are not able to submit time-off requests that fall into the next calendar year.

Example: If the current year is 2025, employees can only request time off until December 31, 2025.

Yes – User Chooses Which Year

Employees can submit requests in the next calendar year and choose whether the time-off should be deducted from:

  • The current year’s balance, or

  • The next year’s balance.

Example: An employee requesting time off in January 2026 could choose whether that time is taken from their 2025 or 2026 balance.

Yes – Force Deduct from Current Year

Employees may request time off in the next calendar year, but the system will automatically deduct the time from the current year’s balance.

Example: If the current year is 2025, a request in January 2026 will reduce the employee’s 2025 balance.

Yes – Force Deduct from Next Year

Employees may request time off in the next calendar year, but the system will automatically deduct the time from the next year’s balance.

Example: If the current year is 2025, a request in January 2026 will reduce the employee’s 2026 balance.

When to Use Each Option

  • No (default): If your policy restricts time-off requests to the current calendar year only.
  • User Chooses Which Year: If you allow flexibility and want employees to decide.
  • Force Deduct from Current Year: If you require unused time to be used before it renews.
  • Force Deduct from Next Year: If you prefer requests to always count toward the new year’s balance.
