PurelyHR MFA - Employee FAQs
This article is for PurelyHR employees who are required to use Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA) to sign in.
What is MFA and why am I seeing this?
- Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA) is an extra security step that helps protect your PurelyHR account. In addition to your password, you will be asked to verify your identity using a code.
- If you are being prompted to set up MFA, it means your company has enabled MFA to better protect employee information.
When do I need to set up MFA?
- If MFA is enforced by your organization, you will be prompted to set it up the next time you sign in to PurelyHR.
- You must complete MFA setup to continue accessing your account.
What will I see during MFA setup?
-
During setup, you will be asked to choose how you want to verify your identity. The options you see depend on what your administrator has enabled for your organization.
-
You may see one or both of the following options:
- App authentication – Use an authentication app (such as Google Authenticator or Authy) to generate a one‑time code
- Email authentication – Receive a one‑time code sent to your email address
- After selecting and completing your MFA method, you will be shown a list of backup codes.
Save your backup codes
-
Backup codes are very important:
- They can be used if you lose access to your phone or authentication app
- Each backup code can only be used once
- You will not be able to view them again after leaving the setup screen
- Be sure to save or print your backup codes and store them in a safe place before finishing setup.
How do I sign in with MFA?
-
After entering your username and password:
-
Enter the code from your authentication app, OR
-
Click Use a backup code and enter one of your unused backup codes
-
- This verifies your identity and completes sign‑in.
What are backup codes?
-
Backup codes are one‑time‑use codes provided during MFA setup.
-
You can use a backup code if you:
-
Cannot access your authentication app
-
Are temporarily locked out of your primary MFA method
-
What if I lost my phone or cannot access my backup codes?
-
On the MFA screen, click:
-
“Lost your authentication device or lost your backup codes?”
-
This will notify your company administrator that you need help accessing your account.
-
What happens after I request MFA help?
-
After you request MFA help, your company administrator/s are notified automatically, you will see an on‑screen confirmation, and you will receive an email confirming that your MFA reset request was sent. Once your administrator resets your MFA, you can sign in and set up your authentication method again.
Will I receive any MFA emails?
- Yes. You may receive emails related to MFA, including:
- MFA Enrollment Success – Confirms that a new MFA method was successfully added to your account
- MFA Reset Request Confirmation – Confirms that your request for MFA help was successfully sent to your company administrators
- Your MFA Enrollment Has Been Reset – Confirms that your MFA reset request is complete and that you can sign in and re‑enroll your authentication method
If you receive an MFA email that you did not request, contact your company administrator immediately and change your password.
Can I skip MFA?
-
No. Once MFA is enforced by your organization, all employees must use MFA to access PurelyHR.
Who do I contact if I need help?
-
If you have trouble signing in with MFA or need your MFA reset, please contact your company administrator for assistance.
Tip: Keep your backup codes in a safe place so you can access your account if you lose your authentication device
